What makes a turkish beach towel different
Unlike conventional terry beach towels, a turkish/hammam towel has no looped pile. It is flat-woven cotton with a distinctive striped or jacquard ground and fringed ends. The construction gives four defining commercial advantages:
- Pack size: Folds 50-60% smaller than equivalent terry — critical for guest amenity kits, beach-bag inserts and DTC retail
- Dry time: Dries in 30-45 min in open air vs 2-3 hr for terry — major guest review driver
- Aesthetic premium: Reads as 'designer' and 'natural' to the lifestyle buyer; appears across hospitality, retail and DTC simultaneously
- Weight: 250-380 GSM vs 450-550 GSM for terry — saves on freight and laundry-program kg charges

Hammam vs fouta vs peshtemal — terminology
Buyers ask which is which. They are essentially the same product with regional naming:
- Peshtemal: Original Turkish bath-house textile. Most authentic when buyer wants the 'turkish' brand story.
- Fouta: North African / Mediterranean term, especially Tunisia. Often slightly lighter and with more fringe.
- Hammam towel: Generic Western marketing term encompassing the category. Most flexible for B2B branding.
We default to 'hammam' in production documents and let the brand client market it as peshtemal, fouta or turkish beach towel based on their positioning. The physical product is identical.
Decoration options and best practices
Custom branding on hammam towels works differently than on terry. The flat weave is structurally a graphic-design opportunity:
- Jacquard-woven stripes: Up to 4 colors woven into the cloth. Best for upscale hospitality where 'branding' must look like 'design'.
- Embroidered corner monogram: 6-10 cm height, satin stitch. The most popular hotel approach.
- Woven brand label: In the hem or along one fringe end. Discreet, premium-feeling.
- Heat-transfer or screen print: Possible but reads less premium — use only for promotional/event programs.
- Avoid full-coverage print: Flat weave does not absorb sublimation well. Stick to woven or embroidered branding.
Color palettes that sell
Based on our last 24 months of hammam-program output, the highest-reorder palettes are:
- Sand + white: Beach-resort neutral. Sells everywhere.
- Terracotta + cream: Mediterranean-luxe positioning.
- Indigo + natural: Coastal-modern, sells in DTC retail.
- Olive + ecru: Riviera/Provence aesthetic.
- Charcoal + bone: Urban-cool, sells in hotel rooftop pool programs.
Production timing and pricing band
Hammam programs are slightly slower than terry due to the fringe-knotting step. Typical timeline from PO to FOB Ningbo:
